How To Know Your Cholesterol

Cholesterol can be a waxy, fat-like substance which is found in all cells on the body. It is essential for great health because it is really a major source for all your body hormones (especially sex hormones), bile acids and vitamin D.

The body definitely makes the cholesterol it deserves. Cholesterol is naturally created in the liver. The liver makes about 70% in the cholesterol our bodies needs daily.  

However, some foods contain cholesterol.  Cholesterol travels throughout the bloodstream in small packages called lipoproteins, which can be made of fat (lipid) with this report and proteins externally.


Two types of lipoproteins carry cholesterol throughout one's body.
They are: 

1.  Low-density lipoproteins (LDL) and  

2. High-density lipoproteins (HDL).  

LDL is considered the bad cholesterol. A high LDL level in one's body leads to a build-up of cholesterol within the arteries (the veins that carry blood from a heart on the other parts of your body).  

HDL, termed as the good cholesterol drives excess cholesterol from your bloodstream to your liver for removal from our bodies. 

High blood cholesterol is really a condition in which there's too much cholesterol inside your blood. This occurs as a result of an excessive amount small, dense LDL particles inside the bloodstream.  High carbohydrate diet improves the level of small, dense LDL particles inside the blood. The greater the higher level of LDL inside your blood, the harder your chance to get a cardiovascular disease, since the small dense particles clog the arteries and limit the flow of oxygen-rich blood towards the heart.

On the other hand, the higher the degree of HDL inside your blood, the lower the chance of getting a heart related illness.

Now, what exactly are those foods which contain LDL or HDL?    

Foods that incorporate LDL (bad cholesterol) include;
-fries and fried chicken that are loaded with sodium, fat and cholesterol, egg yolk, cheese ,fast foods ,cakes, pies and cookies, liver (chicken),               processed meat (bacon) and red meat.  

Foods that reduce cholesterol levels naturally include; oats, rice,nuts (e.g. walnuts),salmon and fatty fish, green tea, dark chocolate,   -almonds,beans,whole barley, avocado,garlic,spinach,margarine,olive oil,   lycopene foods for instance tomatoes, watermelons, etc.   


Remember, always keep moderation in veiw and focus on your daily nutritional habits that would enhance your healthy wellbeing always.
